Tips and Guides:
  • Kazuhiro's tips
I'm writing a series of guides for new players and old. They are quite long, and are generally regarded as very factual and helpful. Highlights, addendums, and discussion of the questionable bits of the guides' content is always included in the threads where they have been posted on the DF forums. You are encouraged to post in these threads if you have questions, and you should also read what has already been posted in those threads, as invariably there are experienced players such as Hinotori who are there to offer their advice as well.

1: Kazu's Guide for Starting Characters, a comprehensive look at all of the game's classes.
2: Kazu's Guide to Surviving Low-Level Play. A general "instruction manual" for getting into the groove of the game, and includes a list of helpful links in the beginning.

Here are some ways to stand a better chance in the dark streets of Dead Frontier

1. Take a different route! If you notice that your not getting any items on a simplistic set path, it probably means that that is an area of low spawns.

2. Save your ammo! Firearms are obviously useful for there ability to attack at a distance, increasing your chances of avoiding harm, but this being said, you must be careful to save your bullets! I cannot stress this enough, try to stalk up on as much ammo as you can fit in your inventory, and still try to pull the trigger in limited proportion.

3. Be aware of inventory space! It is extremely tempting, i know, to snatch up every last plaster and crisp in sight, but when your inventory becomes full, you wont be able to pick up any additional items until you either eat, use, sell, or even discard an item. The only reason that this is a problem is because if you search and find something worth value, you wont be able to pick it up for obvious reasons, and after you have made space, you will have to reload the map and the item will randomly be on a different loot spot in the map, this can lead to you not finding it anymore, or getting swarmed with zombies before you find it, so next time you pick up a beer, look lively!

Thanks for reading, and remember, watch your back, use your head, and aim for theirs. More info to come soon

I divide inner city expeditions into two distinct categories, an Experience run and a suicide run

XP run: An expedition in which i equip my best armor (the first white one you can get) and go into the city. I wander the city until i meet a green zombie and/or get high aggro, then position myself in what i prefer to be a 4-way intersection and pick off zombies until i level up. This is a great strategy to level up if ammo is not a gigantic issue. Remember to stay near the outpost somewhat, so you'll always be fighting normal and purples while also having an escape route. This strategy makes way for my next one..

Suicide run: While sounding kind of "Bleak", this run is actually very beneficial. In this run, i equip my weakest armor (the best green one) and hit the ground running. Only tackle this strategy when you have recently leveled up, so you will lose little or no experience! Continue to reap your fill until you succumb to powerful zombie attacks (so far into the city, escape is unfeasible, and your not planning to survive anyway. I equip my less powerful armor because white armor repairs are hella expensive (i spent two hour finding a repair, and IT cost 1.5 k!) Remember to never let your guard down, EVER.

Thanks for reading guys, happy hunting. (if only i tried this hard in school)

Some more tips.

1. Make sure that if you go loot, to take long trips rather then farming particular spots since for a street to regain loot you have to either be so many streets away or X amount of times has to have passed. the further east you go the better the loot will be.

2. I would advice the use of a Trench Knife / Machete / Sabre / Katana, these weapons have been confirmed to keep the zombie "aggro" very low. this way you can go far east and find good items without having 5 fast zombies on your heels.

3. If you want to gain experience and level quickly i would recommend hunting in the first street, so that you have a quick escape route if things go wrong. you should use a chainsaw or gun to attract a large amount of zombies quickly and then take your biggest melee weapon to whack all the zombies down. This method works will with a high critical chance build.

4.You wont find much ammo around, but there is a lot of unpopular ammo on the market, high level pistol ammo sells for cheap. Currently rifle and shotgun ammo is in high demand. so if you must use a gun, get your pistol skill up and find a nice Glock. This way you can buy lots of cheap ammo and shoot to your hearts content.

5. Sprint is your friend, don't waste it just so you can go from one end to the other end faster. Save it when you need it to escape from zombies that have come to eat you. A good way to escape from a large group of zombies is either to use a chainsaw and push your way out. (you can just push through zombies with a chainsaw without getting hurt) or to get a melee weapon critical hit and then sprint through the gap you made by pushing the zombie back. (these tactics don't work if your up against a wall or car). Of course if your using ranged weapons, we assume that you wouldn't get close to zombies and take them down before they surround you.

Thats my 2 cents, Good luck to all you zombie hunters.

  • East's Tips

This is what I have found to be a good strategy so far.

1. When you enter the first street bring up the map then plan out a route out and a different route back to optimize the amount of things that are able to get.

2. As Raynos said SPRINT IS YOUR FRIEND, don't waste it. If your blasting away at zeds with your M1 and one runs up behind you SPRINT your ass away

3. Bob and Weave. Learn some dodge techniques, the best way to do this is try and set a goal to get 20+ blocks in with a knife weapon

4. Silence is golden if you to go out searching for supplies don't run down the street firing up your chainsaw it just wont work that way. Knives are the best obtained weapons you can get and Katanas are the best that you can donate for *donating is good* if you want to be sneaky

5. Remember once you hit level 11 you can't just drink beer and eat crisps anymore your going to need to contact a chef so make friends early. The same goes for healing the plasters will heal you up to a point, but you will need to use higher level medical supplies so stop eating apples so that doctor will come around.

Just some basic principals for using melee weapons without endangering yourself.

1. Knives, your best friends.
They have the highest rate out of all the melee weapons, under chainsaws, the stronger the knife, the more the knock-back it offers, (trench knifes almost always knock back an enemy to provide decent escaping space.) When fleeing a horde of sprinting Zombies, your best bet is your knife, it will force them back, and attack at an equal speed to that of the zombies. When fighting with a knife, remember move in, attack, move out, and repeat to avoid being hit. Knives have the lowest of all aggro rates, I have made it all the way within two blocks south of death row without having more than 3 zombies on one screen.

2. Chainsaws, dog whistles for zombies.
Chainsaws by far have the highest attack rate out of melee weapons, however they are relatively weak. They have the ability to knock back all zombies except the "Fatties" who thrust themselves upon it (BEWARE THE "FATTIES"). when bearing a chainsaw keep in mind it has a high aggro rate, and in no time you will be swarmed with a decent number of angry zombies. It, like the knives is a good way to keep zombies off of you while retreating, however it does not have a high knock back range like the knives, though it does conduct a never ending barrier in front of you and them so long as you hold the mutton down, and are not fighting the "Fatties". It is also in my beliefs that exp received while wielding the chainsaw will be decreased overtime if you remain in on particular street at a time. Keep Movin'.

2.1 Note that with a high level chainsaw, i.e. a STIHL you can hold off any zombie as long as your crit chance is very high 90%. (this was before the new reds addition)

3. Two handed weapons.
I don't specify in these types, however I do use them in conjunction with an HK SL8 (rifle), take a shot or two then when and if they get close, swing away to conserve ammo. They have a high knock-back rate, and good damage, but a decreased attack speed, when swarmed by Zombies you'd best know your weapon, and have a back up weapon available. Blunt weapons and two hand weapons generally have a a decent to high aggro rate.

4 PvP tips, Melee vs Guns
(to be released)

  • Yoshimtu's Item Tips

1. Professions/Workers.
You will usually see people ask for a chef, doctor or other professions. If you have tried that and get no responses, try the records It can be found in the outpost if you are not sure. There will have the highest levels so it will be easier. Remember though they all might not be for hire.

2. Inner City looting.
We all know that the deeper you go the more you get. I am not for sure myself, but I heard Death Row is on the bottom right. Death Row is the most dangerous place and the place for loot. I found 2 GL (Grenade Launchers) And sold both for 9K total.

3. Prices.
The rarity of a item will make most people buy overpriced. Try to avoid this. If you had 5K and you saw a item thats normal priced (lets say $2,500) that you wanted. The chances are you would buy it. If you didn't see it for that price and saw the item for $4,000, The chances are you would still buy it. You could afford two of the item for 1K more. So avoid this as much as possible

4. Misc..

4-1. If you are in the inner city your probably going to want a quiet weapon such as knives if your there for the loot. You "wouldn't" want guns, chainsaws, or blunt weapons unless you want aggro (More zombies will come)

4-2. If you switch between two screens back and forth you will get no items. (Farm protection)

4-3. As said in Zeladar's tips when your deep in the inner city it is good not to pick up items such as beer,
crisps, or any item that wouldn't go over 50$. If you did and you inventory space gets full and you see something like an M79 (Grenade launcher) you will not be able to get it. Your inventory will be full and if you open your inventory the page will refresh and you will have to skip it.

- These are just some random helpful tips.

1. Even though slicing weapons such as knives and swords keep the aggro low, as soon as you enter red zombie territory, even with no aggro, they will all eventually aggro on you. I have been down there using only a machete, and pretty soon I literally had 10 zombies chasing me. So if you're a newbie, don't think you can go really far east with only a trench knife, unless you really want to take the big risk of dying.

2. If you use melee weapons, get a chainsaw, a good knife/sword, and put all of your stats into strength and critical hit. With a high critical hit, a chainsaw, and a good slicing weapon or blunt weapon, go to the first or second screen. Use your chainsaw to kill zombies for about 5 minutes. This will attract about 5ish of them on the screen at one time. Now take out your melee weapon and bash them all down. I was level 19 and was able to level like this in like 10 - 15 minutes.

Thank you for reading!

I often write guides for several games as they are needed, currently I only maíntain the 'Trading Guide', which is rather long, but helps to learn practically all ways how to trade as well as teach several fine tricks about it.

Guide I - The Trading / Market Guide

  • Unconfirmed possible ways to find the Behemoth:

☻To get this Boss to spawn, try to get your wanted/aggro level maxed out at the intersection two blocks away from the outpost.
☻(Any Direction should work) keep heading south (towards Hunston) the boss will appear when a new map loads.
☻ (leaving the Boss fight map).If you decided to chicken out and run, your aggro level will be wiped and you have to start over.
☻During the Boss fight, the Boss seems to increase speed when it’s almost dead.

Notes on Behemoth:
  • Its melee attack range is long so don’t underestimate it.
  • If there are cars or objects, run around them because the Boss has slower turn speed.

Anonnomous
When you reach level 20 you have one last chance to grind the hell out of purples and reds ( or if your good enough Fat Reds and Long Arms
Heres the Deal
You must be a melee user ( Crow Bar at high crit is good enough )
At level 20 you get your final chance to use antiseptic sprays ( the last self administrated med )

Your inventory should be composed of
- Weapons X 3
- Armors 1 or 2
- 10 antiseptic sprays
- 15 or 10 ready to eat foods

your weapons should only consist of 1 crowbar or anything better then it and 2 crit mced weapons

your should be 2 XR22 Meshes or anything higher that you can equip

Now when you are all ready
proceed red terrotory and try to find a green OR bring a chainsaw ( much preferable but would require you to get 50 melee )
once you gain enough aggro
GRIND!

and keep grinding until your Nurished becomes fine or you become siriously injured
when this happens enter you inventory and use antiseptic sprays and/or foods
when your armor finally brakes switch to your 2nd armor

keep doing this until you run out of supplies
when you do you can either
1. Return to the outpost and gain multiple levels ( note: once you return to the outpost you cannot return to the slingshot tactics , antiseptic sprays wont work )
2. Search for antiseptic sprays in the city and eatable foods then continue to grind.

If done professionally you should get yourself from level 20 to 30

This Tactics can also be done at higher levels but you will no longer be able to heal yourself to healthy anywhere
also this can apply to lower levels below 20 ( level 6 as soon as you can equip a crowbar ) but is much preferably done to 20 to max benefitts

Things That Don't Work

- Don't plan on finding a place where you can stay in one spot and just hold down the attack button (usually chainsaws) to rack up EXP because the game has an anti-cheat system that detects this and you will not get EXP.

- If you're doing a loot run in a large party, it may be best if the group is not sprinting all the time. Sprinting may cause aggro which defeats the purpose of a loot run. (Unconfirmed)
- Don't try to "plan" any kind of party run in the first street just because it's empty. If you stay like a minute or two in that place and talk, once you really enter the city your plans will be useless, as large groups can easily max aggro in that time without noticing.

I've noticed that many noobs don't know what aggro is and how it gets started.
Aggro is when zombies spawn more often and when they sprint more. It is a good thing to have when you want to level up but definitely bad when you are looting. You can obtain aggro by staying in one spot in a building for a long time then moving to another area. You can make noise by firing various guns or running a chainsaw. The most effective way to attract aggo is probably to stand in the safe zone for a while and then walking into an area. Knives are extremely quiet but they will be your best friend when it comes to keeping silent when looting. Hope this helps.

If you want to have an easy time remember these main points

1. SAVE YOUR SPRINT Because it will save you

2A. If your looting DONT ATTAK ANYTHING just dodge and sprint IN MODERATION

2B. If your doing an Exp. Run Go silent till you rech death row ... then make sure you have a full inv of primary weapon ammo then make your wy back to the outpost ... happy level-up day!

3. if your going for the express pourpose of finding a boss ... Stay in one area killing swarms for about 10 minutes then go one block further INTO the city ... have fun!!!
