1. Food and Hunger Basics

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
Canned FoodAt the beginning, everyone starts with 100% Hunger (Nourished), every 30 minutes 1% Hunger is lost. Once the Hunger level is at 0%, 1 HP is lost every 60 minutes.
1% of Hunger is lost for approximately every two minutes spent in the Inner City section of the game. (i. e. fighting zombies, looting supplies, doing missions, etc.)
While being logged off, a maximum of 3% of Hunger is lost. (Logging off for 2 hours results in 2% Hunger loss, while logging off for 3 or more hours results in at most 3% Hunger loss.)

Hunger affects the experience points earned by killing zombies, such that if the Hunger level is
74% or less, 100% EXP is earned, while if it is 75%+, 200% experience points are gained.

There are currently 20 types of food, which can be found in the Inner City or produced by farmers. Some food has to be cooked to be edible, which can be done by
Chefs equal and above the required cooking level.

Note:
Hiring a chef which is equal or just above the required level helps the economy and gives higher level chefs the chance to attend the needs of stronger players.

Food types restore a set percentage of hunger, contrary to medicine which heals variable amounts of health. Food also has a level of effectiveness, which means that everyone equal and below the effective level will be able to get
nourished. (= 100%, but rumors speak of a maximum level of 130%)

For example, Crisps are a level 10 food item, which restores 20% Hunger. If a player is at 80% Hunger and level 10 or below, his / her Hunger level will go up to 100% once the crisps are eaten. However, any player higher than level 10 would be still be at 80% after eating the crisps.

Important Note:

  • When reviving after death, the Hunger level will be always reset to Fine status (50%).

Hunger Indicators:

Nourished = 75%+
Fine = 74 - 50%
Hungry = 49 - 25%
Starving = 24 - 0%

Pre-Cooked Food

Crisps
Average Pr
ice:
$ 10-30
These basic potato chips are numerous in this apocalyptic world, which clearly indicates why so many people tell tales of terribly annoying fat zombies.
Beer
Average Price:
$ 10-30
One of the most common beverages before the outbreak, and a very common one afterwards, this no-name beer is one of the two worst types of foods. The only taste people still get from this drink, is a fouly, unhealthy one, but at least it satisfies their thirst for a while.
Fruit Juice
Average Price:
$ 25 - 100
This no-name fruit juice is even less nutritive than the common beer, but is able to satisfy vitamin-hungry survivors a lot better. Additionally, it still has kind of a sweet flavour.
Pork Rinds
Average Price:
$ 50 - 150
Packaged thoroughly, pork rinds are a common treat for those who have only eaten crisps in the last few days. While eating this, many survivors can finally revive memories of the taste of real, tasty meat.
Lemonade
Average Price:
$ 100 - 200
Lemonade seems to have a life of its own, being so sour and all. But nevertheless, Lemonade is quite healthy and able to satiate most survivors for a while.
Seeds
Average Price: $ 150 - 250
Seeds are, while not a very common food, very healthy, energizing and they have amazing shelf lifes. These can be either eaten instantly or, if you have some farming skills and time, you may even be able to grow something even more tasty by combining these seeds, water and healthy earth.
Orange Juice
Average Price: $ 150 - 250
Orange Juice is expensive and has a very good and healthy taste, but is somewhat rare to find on the market, due to its quite high demand within the ranks of experienced zombie hunters.
Cheese
Average Price:
$ 300 - 700
Cheese, like milk, is rare, but then again it's a healthy and quite tasty kind of food, with a moderate shelf life. Once used mainly as a tasty addition to meat and other meals, it has found popular use in supplying many hungry survivors with protein.
Milk
Average Price: $ 300 - 700
Milk is rare, and rightfully so, because it is able to refresh even several of the most experienced survivors. This healthy (if kept cooled) substance will satiate most people really well.
Mixed Nuts
Average Price: $ 500 - 1000
A pack of nuts, while formerly seen as unimportant snack during meals, now proves incredibly useful. Being a valuable source of energy and healthy oils along with a quite long life, nuts are a rare treat to most survivors.
Red Wine
Average Price: $ 500 - 1300
If one is still able to own and drink this red elixir of happiness in this forsaken world, he or she is either very lucky, or damn rich, since these nice bottles are almost always kept within well protected locales.

Uncooked Food

Rotten Cabbage
Average Price:
$ 10 - 60
Average Price (cooked)
$ 40 - 100
This piece of cabbage was already gnawed on by all kinds of surviving vermin in this world, but as long as at least a part of it is edible, it is worth quite a bit, like every bit of food in this forsaken world. But before attempting to eat this salad, never forget to cook it! Since almost anyone with a bit of cooking skill can heat up this rotten cabbage enough to make it safe to eat but prevent burning it, a proper chef shouldn't be hard to find.
Cooked Pizza
Average Price
: $ 25 - 100
Average Price (Cooked):
$ 50 - 200
Pizza, many people's favourite food before the outbreak, can still be found in many places in the city, because of exactly that reason, its popularity. But the only types of pizza, which are still edible after these years are the frozen ones. These still taste well and nourish a good bit, the one thing needed though, are either good cooking skills or a hired chef, to properly defrost and cook them.
French Fries
Average Price
: $ 25 - 100
Average Price (Cooked): $ 50 - 200
French Fries are another kind of junk food, that was as popular among the public before the outbreak, as they are now among the remaining survivors. Its carbohydrates are a useful source of energy, and when properly fried and seasoned they can soften even the hardest palate.
Pasta
Average Price: $ 50 - 150
Average Price (Cooked):
$ 100 - 250
Pasta, a quite healthy type of food, is pretty uncommon in the city, despite its long shelf life - this tells quite something about the people, who used to live here. However lately, pasta has become more useful and sought after, when the remaining survivors began to wean themselves off of junk food - now they began to require higher energy food to compliment their improved physiques.
Beef Burgers
Average Price: $ 100 - 200
Average Price (Cooked): $ 150 - 300
These are a rare treat in the ruins of society: Real, uninfected and tasty pieces of meat. But because they are a good source of protein, most has already gone bad, scavenged or been torn apart by confused infected. What can be still found intact and edible is prized and enjoyed, or sold high and fast. The delicious smell that wafts through the outpost when these are masterfully grilled however, can draw much resentment from fellow survivors.
Frozen Vegetables
Average Price
: $ 100 - 200
Average Price (Cooked): $ 150 - 300
Previously unpopular vegetables are now in great demand within the many vitamin-starving survivors. Fresh greens are becoming quite rare, due to more and more survivors becoming health conscious and preferring them, rather than the still-so-common junk food.
Rice
Average Price
: $ 150 - 300
Average Price (Cooked):
$ 300 - 700
Soon after the outpost was built and things were set, survivors realized that food with long shelf life, are the only things left to eat in quantity - and white rice lasts for a long time. Once it was derided as "peasant food" and used as filler, but now many realize that even a single bowl can supply enough energy to work for half a day, and hopefully enough to get back home. It is quite difficult to cook properly though, which therefore requires an experienced chef and his tools.
Cherry Pie
Average Price: $ 150 - 300
Average Price (Cooked): $ 300 - 700
Cherry Pie is another rare treat, a blend of sugar and fruit in a baked crust. The few people that are lucky enough to find one, know that a well timed sugar rush can be quite effective in a pressure situation - even though after wards, they may feel fatigued, it's better than being dead.
Sausages
Average Price: $ 200 - 300
Average Price (Cooked): $ 300 - 700
The three most important things a survivor finds themselves needing are protein, vitamins and sugar. Pork or beef sausages fulfill the rarely satisfied protein needs for the day, being eaten plain or with bread. But a Warning: Unprepared sausages can be as deadly as any infected claws! Make sure to hire only experienced chefs to prepared them.
Eggs
Average Price: $ 100 - 250
Average Price (Cooked): $ 600 - 1500
In the old world, it was widely believed that eating too many eggs would lead to numerous health problems and possibly death. Since most of the world is now dead regardless of that notion, few have any thoughts about partaking of this high energy food. Of course, the chance of finding unbroken eggs in the middle of a war zone is laughable at best, but that just makes them all the more valuable.
Fresh Meat
Average Price: $ 150 - 300
Average Price (Cooked): $ 600 - 1500
Meat is by now perhaps the least common kind food anywhere. It is known, that it rots quickly and gets rendered inedible - so if one is lucky enough to find a premium slab of beef, try to preserve it with salt, smoking or what few refrigeration units remain. A particularly skilled chef can turn this into a hearty meal, enough for at least 3 strong hunters.
Fresh Vegetables
Average Price: $ 150 - 300
Average Price (Cooked): $ 600 - 1500
Vegetables were unpopular and thus uncommon in the city before the disaster, as the vast quantities of junk food that clutter the abandoned stores tell us, and they are even rarer now. Other than finding them in the city, a few survivors with skill in agriculturing have begun to coax them from the wasted lands that were once city parks. The result is a very valuable type of food, that requires nothing less than a master chef to prepare properly.
